Che Vive

Assembled from pictures taken in Havana, Cuba from the turn of the century. Fidel Castro was in charge but you could sense the people had a hunger for change. The only relevant currency at the time was the US dollar – perhaps a symbol of ‘freedom’. My long standing memory of this trip is of a beautiful but worn down Havana street on a warm, sunny day, and out of a window, Metallica’s Black album playing at full volume shattering the peace, making a meaningful juxtaposition.This is a snapshot of Havana during a key phase of transition.

The original artwork features my own original photography, with elements printed, hand painted and re-scanned in to create a take its place in a mixed media collage.
